Kenyan Benga star Lady Maureen and her band Nyar Ngato traditional dancers were arrested and jailed in Tanzania and are appealing for financial assistance to pay their Sh. 450000 bail that the High court in Tanzania slapped them with.
According to the artist’s close allies Lady Maureen has on numerous occasions staged shows in Tanzania without any problems as her parents are based in the country.
Lady Maureen and the band were jailed for being the country without valid travel documents and are being held at Butimba prison in Mwanza.
The Benga music fraternity have since formed a whats app group to try and fund raise to bail the musician out if not she faces up to six months imprisonment.
They have already been in prison for nine days.
Lady Maureen is famed for the Gor Mahia Kogalo song in praise of Kenya’s leading football club. She had earlier in the year collapsed at Egesa club in Nairobi’s Umoja estate during her album launch.
