Kenya Poised To Takeover Africa Women Cup Of Nations Hosting Rights From Ghana

Kenya is poised to takeover the hosting rights of the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) from Ghana, according to sources.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is reportedly convinced that Ghana, who were the designated hosts, will not be ready to stage a successful showpiece and have decided to strip them off the rights.

“As at yesterday, CAF had suspended Ghana as the host of the tournament. This morning, a member confirmed that president  Ahmad will hand the tournament to Kenya,’ one source intimidated to Kahawa Tungu.

This decision will be made public “soon.”

To host the AWCON,  a country only needs two standard stadiums, and with Kasarani Stadium ready and Nyayo under renovations, Kenya fits the bill.

The tournament is scheduled for 17 November to 1 December 2018.

Ghana football has been in turmoil since the FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi resigned over damning corruption allegations against him.

The government has been trying to desolve the FA through the courts but FIFA has given them up-to 27 August to stop the proceedings or they face a ban.

Last year CAF took away the hosting rights of the 2018 CHAN from Kenya for lack readiness and staging AWCON would atone for the missed opportunity.
