Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019 qualifying match pitting Kenya’s Harambee Stars against Leone Stars of Sierra Leone “will not take place”, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed.
The fixture number 114 was scheduled for Sunday at the Kasarani Stadium – Nairobi, Kenya but since the FIFA suspension of Sierra Leone is still in force, the Group F game cannot be staged.
“Seeing that Sierra Leone is still under suspension by FIFA, please note that the above mentioned match will not take place,” a circular from the Cairo, Egypt based body to the concerned parties reads.
Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) was suspended indefinitely by the world’s football organization due to government interference and hence cannot play international football till it is lifted.
The country missed a double header against Ghana in the last two rounds of the qualifiers last month.
CAF said that the games will not be rescheduled even if the suspension is lifted.
The other qualifying match of the group pitting Ethiopia against Ghana on Saturday will however go on as scheduled even as they await the fate of the group.

“The status of the group will be communicated later on once the competent body takes a final decision in this regards,” CAF added.
Kenya lead the group on seven points followed by Ghana and Ethiopia on three points apiece.
The Harambee Stars only needed a point against Sierra Leone to qualify for the AFCON set for Cameroon next year and as it stands, they are already through.
