The Kenya Power company has blamed a number of issues for the inflated electricity including the drought that occurred between January and March that caused the water levels at the dams to reduce.
The energy principal secretary Joseph Macharia appearing before the senate committee admitted that the inflation was as a result of faulty meters which at times run high or run slower than usual. He also said that they relied on estimates to bill customers and that is why the clients received varying bills on each month.
The Kenya Electrical trades allied workers union secretary general has Ernest Nadome has said that the inflated bills was deliberate as there was meddling with the new system.
“There is deliberate meddling with the ICMS system which has failed Kenyans,” Nadome said.
The principal secretary said that the issue was being resolved and that service will be back to normal in July.
