Kalahari’s mother company buys into polish “facebook”

Naspers / MIH group is, according to Polish newspaper reports, the largest Internet group in Western Europe, is conducting checks on assets belonging to  Forticom owned by Digital Sky Technology. Naspers Group and DST already together own the largest Russian online portal Mail.ru

If it goes through, the deal would see Naspers/MIH and DST merge their Polish Internet properties like IM service Gadu-Gadu which  is wholly owned by Naspers and has 15 million registered users. Polish biggest social network,  Nasza-Klasa.pl which is 70% owned by Forticom and claims over 23 million registered users, will also be under Naspers after the deal. Forticom also owns social networks Odnoklassniki.ru in Russia and One.lv & One.lt in Latvia and Lithuania

In Africa Naspers own; East Africa Magazines, Kalahari Kenya, Multi-Choice Network, Allegro, Mweb, Media24, MobileTV, Via Africa, Supersport among others.

The deal would see Naspers / MIH Group reach over half of Poland’s Internet audience, according to reports from Quintura.

Poland claims over 20 million Internet users, which is around 52% of the 38 million population, so there’s plenty of room for organic growth yet. While the internet advertising market in the country was reportedly valued at $370 million in 2009.
