Former Kiambu Governor, William Kabogo on Wednesday lost land valued at Sh1.8 Billion that his company, Caroget Investments Limited acquired from the Nairobi City Council in 2003.
The piece of land located in Nairobi’s Westlands is also owned by Aster Holdings which in 2010 filed documents in court claiming that it was the sole owner of the plot since 1993.
In May, the former county boss told Justice Elijah Obaga that he registered the land with the Lands Ministry and paid all the necessary fees.
Mr Kabogo’s title deed had been cancelled by former Lands Commissioner Zablon Mabea but later reinstated.
“My company acquired title to the property pursuant to a transfer of lease from Nairobi City Council to whom the property was allotted. Caroget paid Nairobi City Council the fees and charges for the property,”Kabogo told the court.
City Hall valuer Isaac Nyoike told the court that the city council had wrongfully issued the title deed after discovering that the land was privately owned.
