Justice Joseph Louis Ongutu has died.
The High Court judge collapsed at the Parklands Sports Club gymnasium on Thursday evening before being rushed to MP Shah where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Confirming the commercial division judge’s passing was Kenya Judges and Magistrates Association Secretary General Derrick Kuto. He said that the deceased passed on after a gym session at the club.
Justice Ongutu will be remembered for having ruled that the state had erred by issuing title deeds without consulting the National Lands Commission.
The deceased was also handling the Kenya Power inflated bills case before his untimely death.
He was in 2014 among the 11 lawyers nominated to the Judicial Service commission (JSC) but did not make the cut.
He was eulogized as a stand up man and a ‘superb teacher of the law and a great professional.’

We all die the day we are born; life is just but a journey towards the end of the dying, the finality of the living: to be heard and to be seen no more, to be remembered or forgotten only. The end. Good bye Justice Louis Onguto.
