Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) don Dr Peter Waweru is among 27 referees selected by the Confederation of African Football to officiate at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The teacher of Pure and Applied Mathematics at the Thika-based University is the only Kenyan “whistle-blower” chosen to grace the premium continental showpiece.
Peter’s profile has been rising in Africa and has been assigned games in the ongoing CAF Champions League.
The FIFA ref was in Niger for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, his first major assignment since earning his badge in 2017.

Peter will be accompanied by countryman Gilbert Cheruiyot, who has been selected among 29 assistant referees to do duty at the 2019 AFCON beginning June 21 to July 19.
Cheruiyot is not new to such high profile tournaments as he used to partner Aden Marwa before he (Aden) was banned for life for receiving a bribe.
