Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Jennifer Shamalla has taken her violent uncle to court after an aggressive confrontation that threatened her safety.
Narrating her scary ordeal, Shamalla told the court that her uncle, Hosea Mosse Shamalla, attacked her with a hoe, ready to harm her.
The MP exclaimed: ‘“I was shocked when my bodyguard shouted a warning to him “don’t you dare.”
“I had not seen him approaching me armed with a jembe and ready to attack. This forced my bodyguard to draw his gun, forcing the attacker to retreat,” she told a Kakamega court.
She further mentioned that she was later advised to leave the scene immediately for her own safety.
The legislator stated that the incident took place last year when she had gone to her rural home in Musigu, Kakamega County.
According to Shamalla, who is also a high court advocate, her uncle attacked her after she sought to find out why he had encroached on her father’s land and fraudulently changed the parcel’s ownership.
During her submissions, Shamalla noted: “I was squarely on an ancestral land belonging to my father, a distinguished Permanent Secretary in the reign of the second President of Kenya. However, the same land Kakamega/Mugomari/1353 is currently registered under the accused person’s name having acquired it fraudulently.”

Mosse was accused of creating disturbance with an intention of physically harming her.
Following the incident, Shamalla reported the matter to Shisasari Police Station.
Her uncle was later arrested and arraigned in court, he was later released on a Ksh10,000 bond.
Shamalla, an Advocate of the High Court, denied claims of trying to dispossess the accused of the land, saying the property belonged to her father.
She stated: “My father and grandparents were buried on that land. How the accused came to possess it remains a mystery to date.
“The case before court is not motivated by any grudge between me and my uncle. Additionally, I am not of the view that we can reconcile any time soon since he has never approached me seeking to settle the same,” the nominated MP exclaimed.
The case was adjourned to June 12, when more witnesses will testify.
