Former Nairobi county deputy governor, Polycarp Igathe on Friday paid his former boss, Mike Sonko a visit at his home as he recuperates.
The two fell out after Igathe abruptly quit his job as the DG.
Igathe, formerly of Vivo Energy steps down to avoid ‘abusing or betraying my oath of office to Kenyans, Nairobians and my family.’
“Dear Nairobians, it is with a heavy heart that I resign my seat as elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1pm on 31st Jan 2018. I regret I have failed to earn the trust of the Governor to enable me to drive Admin & Management of the county,” he said.
Sonko is still without a deputy a month later. He maintains that he can single-handedly run the county.
Senators will be amending the law to allow governors appoint their deputies should the positions become vacant.
The bill, sponsored by senate majority leader and Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen will also block bar a deputy governor from automatically assuming the office of the governor in the event that office becomes vacant as a result of death or impeachment.
