IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati excluded presidential candidate Cyrus Jirongo who was popularly known as Shakhalaga Kwa Jirongo.The chairman said that he does qualify to be a presidential candidate under Article 137 and 99 (2) (f) of the constitution
Cyrus Jirongo was declared bankrupt by the High court due to 700 million shillings debt.
The two articles both allude that a person cannot be a presidential candidate if they are undischarged bankrupt.

The IEBC gazetted names of five presidential candidate who vied during the August 8 polls after Justice John Mativo said that all presidential candidate who wished to participate in the election should be allowed to participate pursuant to the article 140(3) of the constitution.
IEBC included the name of NASA leader Raila Odinga and running mate Lalonzo Musyoka despite them having been withdrawn their candidature but have declined to signed form 24 A which is the prescribed form for withdrawal.
