Menengai Cream Homeboyz RFC won the third round of the Stanbic Bank National Sevens Circuit, beating Top Fry Nakuru 19-7 in the George Mwangi Kabeberi Memorial Sevens Cup final at the Kenyatta Stadium on Sunday 19 August 2018.
Captain Leonard Mugaisi was first on the scoreboard as he landed a center post try for the DJz with Olindi adding the twos. Nakuru’s Nelson Oyoo was quick to spot a gap and swing through it equalizing the scores as Donald Aluoch kicked in the conversion.
Second half saw Alvin Otieno and Johnston Olindi land a try each with Olindi converting his own try. This sees Homeboyz remain top of the table with 66 points.
Bronze Final
KCB replicated their Pool Match performance with Quins as they picked a second win in this final. On the Day one of Kabeberi7s, KCB beat Quins 17-10 in their first pool match. The Bronze final saw bankers run four tries through their opponents. Flyhalf Shaban Ahmed was first on the scoreboard as he landed his side’s first try which was followed by a Jeff Okwach try at the stroke of half time. Okwach landed his brace in the second half as he dotted down right under the posts with conversion being successful.
With three minutes to play, Brian Omondi extended his side’s lead as he went over the whitewash. Alex Olaba landed his side’s last minute try; the game ending 22-5 in favour of the Bankers.
5th Place
A total of seven tries were scored in this final as Mwamba landed four tries through Eliakim Kichoi, Steve Sikuta, Ronald Omondi and Collins Injera with Daniel Taabu adding three conversions and missing one. Sixth place finisher Kabras Sugar scored three tries as Kelly Okengo went over the whitewash twice, Aluda Beda once and Dominic Osino kicking in two conversions. Mwamba taking the 26-19 win.
Challenge Trophy
Menengai Oilers bagged the Challenge Trophy as they beat Resolution Kisii 15-00. Scores coming from Captain Harold Anduvate in the first half. Two tries from Derrick Mbaire and Peter Wanjala came in the second half.
13th Place
Resolution Impala Saracens narrowly survived a Masinde Muliro scare in this final beating them 17-14 to claim the #Kabeberi7s 13th place trophy.
Cup semifinals
Captain Leonard Mugaisi led from the front as he landed the Deejays first try that was quickly followed by two from Alvin Otieno and Charles Omondi. Johnstone Olindi converting one of the three. Cyprian Kuto reduced the deficit as he sprinted half pitch landing Kenya Harlequins first try and a successful conversion followed. Half time scores read 17-7.
Second half saw Herman Humwa land a center post try that saw Joseph Aredo boot in the twos narrowing the gap to 17-14 in favour of the Deejays. Mark Wandetto’s try gave Homeboyz some breathing space as the scores now read 24-14 after an Olindi conversion. Brian Wandera made his way to the try box but the conversion that followed sailed wide Homeboyz making their way to their third consecutive final.
Philip Kwame opened up the scores in the second cup semi final between Nakuru and Homeboyz with Ominde adding the twos. Cassius Omollo was next on the scoreboard for Wanyore with Ominde splitting the posts. Nakuru now led 14-0. Esau Otieno scored KCB’s try but the conversion sailed wide for the half time scores to read 14-5. Jeff Okwach scored the bankers second try; the conversion sailing wide. The scores would remain the same to full time.

5th Place Semifinals
Arcadius Khwesa was instrumental in blakblad’s performance at the Kabeberi7s. He scored blakblad’s two tries in the fifth place semi final with Brian Wahinya adding the two conversions. They however fell 7 points short as Kabras made their way to the finals having scored three successfully converted tries.
Matt Wanjia landed the opening two tries fro Mwamba RFC as they played Mean Machine in the second 5th place semi final with Daniel Taabu converting one. Steve Sikuta took Kulabu’s lead to 19-0 as he landed a centerpost try with Taabu adding the extras. Kulabu would then lose the services of Ronnie Omondi as he was sin binned. Half time scores remained as was. Interplay between Greg Odhiambo and Matt Wanjia set up captain Eliakim Kichoi to land his side’s fourth try and Taabu successfully adding the twos: Mwamba led 26-0. King of conversions was next in the list of try scorers as he took Kulabu’s score to 31-0
Alfred Orege landed the solitary try for Machine, conversion sailing wide. Brian Kivasia was last on the scoreboard with Injera adding the extras. Full time scores: Mwamba 38 – Machine 5.
Challenge Trophy Semifinals
Menengai Oilers cruised to the Challenge Trophy final as they beat the red lions 20-0 booking a date with Resolution Kisii RFC who landed 33 points across their opponents, Strathmore Leos, try line while conceding 19.
13th Place Semi Finals
The Sepetuka7s surprise package, MMUST, seemed to have lost their shine during the Kabeberi7s. They found their footing during their match against Kisumu where they beat the Dala7s hosts 22-5 in the first semi final.
Resolution Impala Saracens found themselves in unfamiliar territory as they dropped to the bottom four in the Kabeberi7s. They played Northern Suburbs in the second semi final where they went back to their winning ways with a 24-12 win.

Cup quarters
Blakblad danced to the Deejayz tune in the first Cup quarterfinal as they lost 14-24. The series leaders were first on the scoreboard as Brian Wandera landed the first try. Blakblad’s Arcardius Khwesa dashed for a centerpost try that was successfully converted. Homeboyz would then land 3 tries through Alvin Otieno and eonard Mugaisi’s brace. Of the four tries, Johnstone Olindi managed two conversions only. Blakblad’s second try came from Teddy Sammy Okal and a Brian Waihinya conversion.
Kenya Harlequins brought the party to Kabras RFC as they beat them 31-12. Scoring 12 points in the first half and then land another 19 points in the second half. Quins booking a semi final date with Homeboyz RFC.
Top Fry Nakuru humbled the Kabeberi7s hosts Stanbic Mwamba as they beat them 22-17 in the third quarterfinal. KCB booked their semifinals slot as they scored a last minute try against a plucky Mean Machine side, that was leading 12-7, for the Bankers to win 14-12.

Challenge Trophy
Menengai Oilers and Nondies secured themselves a Challenge Trophy semi final as they beat their opponents Kisumu RFC and Masinde Muliro University 19-7 and 14-7 respectively. Derrick Ayange landed a brace for the Oilers as Peter Wanjala dotted down once. Theophilus Nakweya and Brian Wekesa adding a conversion each. Kisumu’s Maurice Osano scored his team’s solitary try with Anthony Osano adding the extras.
Nondies came from a 7-0 deficit at half time against MMUST to bag it 14-7 at full time through tries by Saidi Sumba and Moses Begi with Sumba adding the extras.

Strathmore Leos shut Impala Saracens out of the challenge Trophy Quarters beating them 24-19. Leos were first on the scoreboard as John Oduk and Barnabus Owuor scored a try each with George Orembo converting both. Edmund Anya landed the third try as the Half time break beckoned, Leos taking a 19-0. Second half saw the Sarries dig deep for a comeback as Mark Kwemoi and Leon Adongo landed tries in quick succession with Kwemoi converting both.
Leos multiple infringements saw them reduced to 6 players, Edmund Anya spotted a gap and landed a corner try extending his side’s lead to 24-14. Leos were again reduced to 4 players as two of the remaining six were sent to the sin bin. Impala maximizing on this as Paul Mutsami landed the Sarries third try as the referee blew his whistle marking the end of the match. Leos 24 – Impala 19.
Resolution Kisii RFC edged Northern Suburbs out with a 14-10 win.
