Hawkers and boda boda riders will no longer carry out their businesses within the Central Business District (CBD).

The traders were on Thursday morning kicked out of the city centre and surrounding areas by ruthless county officers alias kanjo.

Those around Ngara, Country Bus station, Kirinyaga Road, Nyamakima and Tom Mboya street were arrested while others managed to get away.

“We have so far arrested 21 boda boda riders and we have taken them to City Court where they will be charged with obstruction. Some boda boda riders have however managed to escape leaving behind their motorcycles which we have with us,” Wilson Too said.

In Mombasa, Kongowea market traders woke up to demolished stalls by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).

Traders say they were not notified prior to the Thursday morning incident. Property worth millions was lost.

“I was in shock. I thought I was being robbed. The person ordering me out was dressed in police uniform, which confused me more,” a trader told the Star.
