Governor Sonko To Rename Pumwani Maternity Hospital After Himself

Nairobi  governor Mike Sonko has said that he intends to rebrand the Pumwani hospital. It will no longer be referred to Pumwani Maternity hospital and will now be Sonko Pumwani Women’s Hospital and College of Nursing and Midwifery.

As a temporary measure to solve the crisis at Pumwani Hospital he made an agreement with the Aga Khan Hospital to provide additional doctors, nurses and hospital support staff for a period of two years  and at no cost.

“It was resolved that AGA KHAN will provide additional Doctors, nurses and hospitals support staff for a period of 2 years at no cost,”Sonko said on his Facebook page.

The permanent solution to the problem will be the construction of a 10 storey building with a bed capacity of 450  which will consist of paediatric ICU, an adult ICU, a HDU, staff quarters, laundry and all necessary facilities.

The contract for the construction of the new hospital will be signed on September 25 and the ground breaking will take place on November 20 . The construction will take two years to be completed.
