The much awaited Gor Mahia’s new Macron made jerseys for players and fans have arrived in the country and should hit the market soon once they clear with the taxmen.
As efforts to have the jerseys on the shelves hit crescendo, there is a genuine worry that unscrupulous traders could flood the market with cheap fakes if given room.
To guard against this and ensure that fans only buy originals from outlets approved by the club, Gor’s marketing committee sat on Wednesday at the Intercontinental Hotel to agree on safeguards.
The committee agreed on fair pricing and the authentic jerseys are expected to retail at Ksh. 5000 per piece.

According to a close source, the club intends to explore partnerships with online retail platforms and even supermarkets to help them reach the mass market.
They are also considering to entirely make the selling process cashless through use of the various mobile money payment options.
Once the stock clears, the club intends to bring customized jerseys from the Bologna, Italy-based sports apparel manufacturer to help in the fight against counterfeits.
The customization process takes five months.
Gor have never tapped in the huge potential they have in merchandizing and the business has largely been left to unscrupulous businessmen, who collaborate with rogue officials to swindle the club.
The club is planning a mega launch at a Nairobi hotel in the coming days to create awareness as they hit the market.
