14 year old girl believed to be behind the Moi Girls’ fire that killed 9 students will appear in court on Wednesday morning.

The fire was described by the CS Education Fred Matiang’i as arson.

Police investigating the cause of fire said that it started from her bed. She is said to have set her mattress on fire on the fateful day.

The girl is likely to be held for a while longer by the police as they look to close the case.

Other students questioned over the matter mentioned her as the mastermind in the fire.

The teenager who has been described as suicidal is also said to have been suspended from school over indiscipline.

“The teenage student in question was earlier suspended from school over indiscipline, she was even walking with a matchbox in the school,” an officer said.

The student is said to have threatened to do something dreadful after her parents refused to move her to a different school.

Word has it that she tried to take her life after being suspended but was later re-admitted.

Families of the deceased have been asked to submit DNA samples for body identification which could take two weeks or more.

The bodies burnt beyond recognition are being held at the Chiromo Mortuary.
