Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi was on Tuesday night arrested for allegedly defaming Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i.

The controversial blogger spent the night at the Kamukunji Police Station and is yet to be arraigned in court.

The self proclaimed ‘boy child defender’ on Tuesday obtained an anticipatory bail set at Sh100,000 pending arrest. He was ordered to appear at the DCI offices for processing and thereafter appear before a magistrate court on February 1 to take a plea.

But a court did however issue a warrant of arrest for him. He was accused of publishing obscene information in electronic form contravening section 84D of the Kenya information and communication of 2009.

Nyakundi’s relatives were also detained by the police on Monday. The officers tried to compel them to give up the blogger’s location.

The five relatives were accused of stealing his car, taken to Kamukunji Police Station and later moved to an unknown location.

He might be arraigned in court tomorrow, a close relative divulged to Kahawa Tungu.

Kenyans want the blogger released. They argue that he should not be behind bars over a civil suit.

Here are some of the reactions:

Defamation is not a criminal but a civil case. @PoliceKE MUST free blogger @C_NyaKundiH

Blogger Cyprian Nyakundih was held at Kamukunji Police Station for defamation and is to be presented to Milimani Law Courts this morning. While we don't defend his actions in any way, we are more concerned with the shrinking freedoms of free speech. #FreeNyakundi

Many of you may not always agree with @C_NyaKundiH's side of the story but we must also admit that he has been able to open up many stories that the main stream media had decided to ignore. #FreeNyakundi pic.twitter.com/XcPOgp5LL4
