Former Embakasi East MP aspirant Francis Mureithi is allegedly a broke man after spending what has been said to be millions of shillings for the National Assembly seat that he is still fighting for in the Court of Appeal.
Kahawa Tungu has learnt that the could have been legislator had his bank accounts frozen under unclear circumstances.
Mureithi is said to have learnt of the development on Wednesday morning as he tried to withdraw funds presumably for his very many businesses.
The businessman turned politician acknowledges that over 50 accounts have really been frozen by a government agency but remains cagey on the reason why.
Word also has it that the former aspirant tried to withdraw huge sums of cash on Tuesday but could not access the money. The bank asked him to come back the next day but still could not get the monies.
But sources close to the politician say that the “Fake” stories appearing in the media are his way of avoiding to pay off his debts.
In 2016, Millicent Akelo, a businesswoman accused the politician of refusing to pay a Sh6 million debt for sugar supplied.
Ms Okelo said that Mureithi owed her Sh3.7 million which until 2012 had accumulated to Sh6 million for sugar that was meant for export to South Sudan.
“He has been playing cat and mouse games. He promises verbally to pay but doesn’t pay. At times he sends me as low as Ksh60,000 . When we went to court, he was ordered to pay since it was discovered that he was lying that he has not been paid. I am offended because he has been organizing rallies and spending a lot of money yet my business has collapsed because of him,” Ms Akelo said.
