Former Kenya Airways Finance Director Alex Mbugua has come out to defend himself against allegations that he was the chief mastermind of fraudulent activities at the struggling national airline.
In a letter sent to the company Chairman Michael Joseph, Alex details instances where Dennis Awori and Mbuvi Ngunze demanded that he be investigated and even forced to resign “wihout any justification.”

Alex claim that Mbuvi Ngunze is directing investigators and staff on what evidence to collect and witness statements to write respectively, with a view of implicating Alex in the illegal dealings at the airline.
According to Alex in the mail, Mbuvi and former KQ chairman Dennis Awori forced him to resign in January 2016 and then literally chased him from the company premises.
According to Alex, Mbuvi’s employment ended in May 2017 but he is still directing everything at KQ without any authority and only with the intention of making sure that Alex Mbugua is jailed and not himself or Naikuni who were heavily involved in the fraudulent schemes which brought down the airline.

In one of the schemes, a total of Ksh 35 million shillings was transferred from South Africa to an account domiciled at Citi Bank Nairobi branch. Alex accuses Mbuvi of being deeply involved in the Dubai Bank fraudulent schemes since the time he was Chief Operating Officer of the airline.
The former Finance boss claim that Mbuvi has used the KQ Treasury Manager Jane Kiboi to run his fraudulent schemes. He also claim that the relationship between Mbuvi and Jane is not usual as they have travelled together in non official mission abroad and were once booked in a room at Ole Sereni on a working day, 18th June 2014.

Alex claim that the bills incurred in the private rendezvous have been footed by KQ without clear reason. Evidence is the June 2014 incidence where Mbuvi Ngunze used his Personal Assistant Judymylce Atieno to direct Ole Sereni to send the bill to KQ.
He further claims that it is him who through the audit committee initiated the forensic audit of the airline’s financial transactions. The former senior executive of KQ also reveal that someone forged his signature and conducted various transactions with the fake signature.

Alex is one of the senior executives of KQ who are blamed for the problems in the airline. The executives – Alex Mbugua, Mbuvi Ngunze and Titus Naikuni – are blamed for mismanaging the airline and pilfering funds from it while the airline still has goodwill from passengers.
Alex has promised to sue KQ should they wrongfully prosecute him.
