The former Nairobi county Education CEC Janet Ouko has instituted a suit against Nairobi governor Mike Sonko for defamation.
The former CEC said in the plaint that the governor implicated her in the loss of Sh357 million through a press conference which was held in Mombasa. She said that that the governor on his own admission said that the money had been withdrawn by one Mr Omondi between the years 2013 and 2018. However the governor insisted on her culpability owing to the fact that she was at the helm of the ministry.
Governor Sonko had stated that the matter was being investigated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and also the Ethics and Anti corruption commission (EACC)
Ms Ouko in the plaint said that the statements by the Nairobi governor was aimed at tarnishing her reputation which she has taken a lifetime to build.
She said that the statements by the governor portraying her as a thief that stole Sh50 million from poor children have caused her damage and that the said statements have jeopardized her chances of gaining meaningful employment as employers will lack trust.
