Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa will be among five candidates contesting for the FIFA Council Member slot for anglophone group today.
The vote takes place during the CAF Congress at Cairo Headquarters, Egypt.
Tanzanian Leodgar Tenga, South Africa FA president Danny Jordan, Elvis Chetty from Seychelles and Malawi’s Walter Nyamilandu are the other candidates.
The position fell vacant mid this year following resignation of former Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi over alleged graft.
Kwesi was also the first Vice-president of CAF, a position now held by Nigeria FA honcho Amaju Melvin Pinnick.
Mwendwa, a first term FKF president, is confident that he has what it takes to lead the game within and beyond Africa.
“Definitely, I have what it takes to do the job for Africa and beyond. I am qualified and passed Fifa integrity test. Our key issues in Africa is youth development, technical and refereeing,” he said.
According to Kahawa Tungu sources, the powers at CAF are fronting Nyamilandu for the seat.

This is already causing division within the organization with two camps emerging; one in support of CAF president Ahmad and a disgruntled lot gravitating towards Zimbabwean power broker Philip Chiyangwa.
Chiyangwa serves as both the president of the Zimbabwe FA and Cosafa, a regional football body for Southern African nations.
He is also an elected member of parliament in Zimbabwe.
Chiyangwa is hugely credited for engineering the fall of former CAF strongman Issa Hayatou of Cameroon and the installation of Ahmad as the new man at the top of African football management.
However, according to sources, the two no longer get along as Ahmad has shifted the center of power to another group with Morocco as the focal point.
