Axed Nyeri County MP Priscilla Nyokabi has set tongues wagging after she boldly asked the new Governor for a job.
The former Women Rep when handed the chance to address the gathering during late Governor Wahome Gakuru’s memorial service epitomized the proverb,’opportunity comes once.’
Without mincing words, Nyokabi, a combative politician who is a professional lawyer told Governor Mutahi Kahiga;
“Give me a job. I am now jobless but very ready to serve if given an opportunity,” she said.
Though she did not come clean on the job position she sought, the only notable position vacant in Nyeri County befitting her caliber is the Deputy Governors job.

While the Constitution allows Kahiga as the new Governor to appoint new CECs, he had earlier intimated that he was willing to work with the CECs late Gakuru had nominated saying,”we picked them together”.
Both the Constitution and the county government Act are silent on how the vacancy on the position of Deputy Governor will be filled. Constitutional lawyers argue that the position will remain vacant until this lacuna in the law is addressed.
A Bill that allows appointment of a new deputy is in Parliament and politicians in the County are pushing that it shoulb be debated and passed quickly.
A section of Jubilee politicians from Central want Kahiga to appoint a deputy and move on.
