An Embakasi East parliamentary candidate, Joshua Obiende collapsed on Wednesday and is still in a coma at the Coptic Hospital after reportedly getting poisoned at one of the rallies he attended the same day.

According to security sources within the sub-county, the candidate was in a campaign forum attended by Governor Evans Kidero, Babu Owino, deputy governor Jonathan Mueke and Wiper party Embakasi East candidate, Haji.

While Obiende was peaking, someone switched off his microphone after which a replacement was given to him. After addressing the gathering, Obiende was informed by the Kidero team that the next gathering was to be at the Embakasi East Social Hall.

Governor Kidero’s campaign convoy never went to the social hall but instead, went to Jacaranda for his next gathering. Obiende allegedly collapsed while waiting for the other NASA campaigners to get to social hall.

Being from the ANC party, Obiende was the only serious challenger to Babu Owino in the NASA camp. The other headache he has to deal with is the deep pocketed Francis Mureithi who is the Jubilee candidate and a major mobiliser in the constituency.
