Today, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of North Maluku province in eastern Indonesia Sunday, US seismologists said, but no tsunami warning was issued. Three countries were affected which include Colombia, Ecuador, and Panama.
An earth tremor is an earthquake especially of low or moderate intensity.
As a precaution, those in/around coastal Kenya (Mombasa, Kikifi, Malindi, Lamu, Diani) have been advised to seek higher ground and leave low lying areas near the beach.
The meteorological department has confirmed the tremor, saying that there is no need to panic as the epicentre was not from the ocean, but from the land hence cannot cause a tsunami.
