Deputy President William Ruto is preparing his 2022 campaign machinery with his latest acquisition being a state of the art Airbus H145 helicopter which is being flown in from France.
According to sources in the know, the Deputy President bought the chopper at a cost of 8 million Euros (Ksh 1 billion) from the official manufacturer, Airbus. The helicopter will be delivered in June.
The pilot who is scheduled to fly the chopper is one Mario Magonga who has just arrived from months long training in France. The helicopter will bear registration 5Y-*** on arrival in the country.
The new acquisition of the Deputy President brings the number helicopters owned by him to 5.
The Airbus H145 helicopter is a state of the art plane which will be able to carry 8 passengers and has a range of 480 kilometres (260 nautical miles).
Armed with night vision capabilities, the H145 is a favourite machine for law enforcers and rescue services providers throughout the world. Other features includes forward-looking infrared (FLIR) cameras, powerful searchlight, hoist, and external roping which can support two people – one on each side.
DP Ruto’s acquisition of the H145 chopper will be the first such helicopter in the country with Everett owning an almost similar one but just in capacity. The Simon Everett owned 5Y-EXQ is a 9-passenger capacity Eurocopter EC-145.
Other helicopters owned by Deputy President William Ruto are two Eurocopter AS350B3e (registration 5Y DSM and 5Y DSN), a Eurocopter EC130B4 (5Y DSC) and Douglas DC-9 (registration 5Y-SAX).
