Marie Stopes has been banned by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board from conducting abortions in Kenya.
The board further advised the health service provider against publishing misleading information on its website.
The facility has also been directed to submit, within 60 days, a report of the reviewed guidelines “to conform with the law.”
Led by Daniel Yumbya, the board further directed that the hospital submits weekly returns to the regulator over the next 60 days.
Marie Stopes was also blocked from running advertisements that contravene Public Health Facilities Advertising Rules, 2016.
But a section of Kenyans, both men and women are dissatisfied with the board’s directives with some threatening to take to the streets.
Here are some of their thoughts:
There goes the men making decisions for women, in the name of morals… again.

I dont support #MarieStopesAbortionsBan. Prohibiting abortions doesn't stop abortions!women will simply seek abortions via illegal means which are unsafe! It’s high time we legalize abortion.

This country really hates women yoh! All it does is, take, take and take.

@EzekielMutua I am horrified to hear a MAN lecture WOMEN using arcane laws about, their right to choose what to do with their bodies. MEN indiscriminately impregnate WOMEN & GIRLS abandoning them to raise child alone! I support a woman’s right to choose! #MarieStopesAbortionsBan https://t.co/TnaX4yEw5k
