Disgraced Jamhuri Day Parade Commander, Lt Colonel Edward Banda, FIRED

Parade Commander, Lt Col Edward Banda invites the Commander-In-Chief, His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta to inspect the Guard of Honor mounted by 15 Kenya Rifles during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Nyayo National Stadium on Tuesday, 20th October 2015

There is the story of the Jamhuri Day military parade commander who dropped his sword while requesting for permission to lead his guard out of Nyayo Stadium. Well, Lt Col Edward Banda has now been fired from the military.

Banda has been the commanding officer for the 15 Kenya Rifles and was the day’s parade commander. He was also the same officer who commanded the troop of colour during the Mashujaa Day celebrations.

The mistake happened right in front of the President and visiting dignitaries led by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia. The embaraced officer tried to save face by moving fast to pick his sword but the mistake was already done. According to a retired Lt Colonel of the Army, “This is not something you’d wish for.”

Well, Lt Colonel Banda might just get a very lucrative offer elsewhere since the army is not only about handling swords.
