The Nairobi county government has sent the Deputy Director Fire Rescue and Disaster Management Brian Kisali on compulsory leave after the fire disaster that took place in Langata
The fireĀ that claimed four lives in the Kijiji slums in Lang’ata took long for the fire department to put out. Nairobi residents were angered by the fact that the fire trucks that were recently commissioned to improve on the efficiency to disaster management lacked water.

This forced the resident to use sewer water to put out the fire.
The letter sent to Mr Kisali read as follows in part;
“Reports reaching this office indicate that you did not carry out your duties and responsibilities as required of you as the officer in charge of Fire and Rescue Services. You were aware that a fire broke out at Langata South lands on 28th January 2018 evening and your team lacked direction and coordination resulting in deaths and loss of property due to mismanagement of the fire disaster.”
A member of the communication team, Richard Bosire confirmed that Deputy Director Fire Rescue and Disaster Management had been sent on compulsory leave as investigations are carried out on his conduct continue.
Mr Kisali has also been asked to show cause as why action should be taken against him within 14 days. According to the county government a person who neglects his duties should be dismissed.
