The Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) has suspended demolition of Seefar Apartments in Nyayo Highrise by 90 days.
The move is aimed at undertaking thorough checks on the compliance documents issued to the property’s developer.
“We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated October 31 on the above order S/No.30365 issued to Edermann Properties. The order was issued during the ongoing multi-agency interventions under the Nairobi Regeneration programmes for structures encroaching on the Ngong River Riparian Reserve,” read the letter.

“It has been resolved that the authority extends the deadline of the order issued by 90 days with effect from November 13, 2018 to enable us check compliance to previously issued orders, if the riparian extent was observed as stated in your letter and other emerging issues,” added the letter.
The owners, Edermann Property on October 12 received a two-week notice of demolition from National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and WARMA noting that the 12 storey building sat on riparian land that the government is seeking to secure.
The notice was later extended by 30 days, following a public outcry and allow time for consultations.
Recently, Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja said that it is hypocritical of the government to bring down Seefar Apartments as it pushes for affordable housing.
“It is unfair for the government to approve a building and to come later and demolish the same,” he noted during a tour of the building.
