It’s now official: hooligans disguising as students have taken over institutions of learning. Due to the aforementioned, institutions of learning in Kenya must invest therefore in modern intelligence and technologies in weeding out criminal and arsonist elements among students. Indeed, failure to investing in intelligence and modern technologies has contributed greatly the recent trend of arsonists and strikes in our local institutions.
Research shows that use of intelligence and modern technology in developed countries has succeeded in deterring and reducing crimes before they happen, and this is terrifying! It’s sad that arsonists, terrorist and other hell-bent criminals have taken over our institutions of learning bringing total paralysis to our hand-earned peace.
If indeed the recent fires, deaths and closure of Universities in Kenya are anything to go by, then one can only conclude that, key players in our education management and systems have neglected their core duty-to provide a good haven to our students
To bringing back sanity in our education institutions, two main instruments of security management must be employed with urgency namely – the use intelligence and modern technologies.

Indeed, when intelligence i.e. brain power in information gathering coupled with modern technologies like video surveillance where cameras and face recognition technologies are used to identify those involved in perpetrating crimes, normalcy in our education systems will be restored back.
Technologies must be employed right from person’s identifier, entrances and exits mapping, premises and compounds surveillance will go a long way in tracking all individuals and activities taking place in those institutions. When intelligence and modern technologies are employed, it becomes very precise for security officials to literally pick culprit’s secret communications, faces from crowd beforehand and prosecute before an incidence occur.

Other latest technological tools like crime mapping technologies, mobile-phone app and social media/Facebook/twitter surveillance will go a long way in tracking criminal’s information right into their specific geographical hideouts by identify trail of texts, calls and any other form of communication before any strike or death occurs.
We must say no to evils of strikes, evils of burning schools, destroying properties and causing deaths and suffering to innocent students. Actually, the cat-and-mouse game between students and police must come to an end forthwith.

Disruption of studies brings not only psychological trauma to innocent students but also, these disruptions come with lots of other social-economic inconveniences to all parties involved.
By investing in intelligence and modern technologies, our institutions of learning will be one step ahead of criminals, furnishing new ways to detect and prevent crimes as well as helping police and institution’s management to single out and convict the offender.
It is not only barbaric but also archaic to punish the entire student fraternity due to very small elements of hell-bent students who are out to kill, steal and destroy.
