The final day of the inaugural Counties Assemblies Sports Association (CASA) games on Friday witnessed hooliganism akin to the chaos we witness in some county assemblies when members fail to debate soberly.
Hell broke loose after Trans Nzoia’s men’s football team refused to concede defeat to Vihiga in the quarterfinals accusing them of fielding ineligible players.
Trans Nzoia, sensing danger after conceding in the first half which was played in the morning, refused to take to the field for the second half instead heading straight to the appeals committee for redress.
During the stalemate, Migori women’s team edged out Kajiado in the final to take home the women’s football gong.
The men’s quarters then resumed in the evening after the appeals body rendered its verdict but there was not change on the pitch as Vihiga held on tight to their slim lid to sail through.
At the blow of the final whistle, Trans Nzoia hooligans stormed the field baying for the referee’s blood but he managed to escape unhurt.
Cases of teams fielding ineligible players was rife across almost all disciplines watering down the games’ intended purpose.
