Facebook forum Buyer Beware has since 2012 been used to expose unscrupulous business people and companies.
It is run by Mildred Atty Owiso who was allegedly abducted for a couple of hours in May 2018 and her co-administrator Jackson Njeru.
The two have in the past noted that they always establish the authenticity of a piece of information and arm themselves with documents before making public a post.

This they have said helps ensure they do not tarnish an organization or individual’s name.
This time around, Kahawa Tungu understands, someone might have “slept on the job.”
A Peter Ondiek Ayang was looking to get rid of his household items before he left for the United States of America for further studies. The best and quickest way of selling these things off was to contact Mildred.

As is norm, she shared the post on the forum where thousands of users take her word for the gospel truth.
One participant looking to make an acquisition reached Peter on 0723288517. He asked to buy a microwave, home theatre and water dispenser. They were amounting to Sh31,000.
The buyer tells this writer that they agreed to have the items delivered to his home in South B.

After making the payment, they reached out to Mildred who assured them that Peter was a stand up guy.
On Sunday, Peter was supposed to deliver the goods at 11 am but kept on making excuses.
“The following day which was yesterday he sends me a WhatsApp that at 7 that he’s on his way to Rongai then he’ll head my way after and that I shouldn’t forget to send him the deposit. He calls but I don’t pick. Around 10.36 am I call him back, he assures me that he’s done with Ronga delivery that he’ll be at South B between 11 and 11.30 am,” the buyer told Kahawa Tungu.

At around noon, they tried calling Peter but his phone was switched off. They immediately tried reaching Mildred who promised to revert once he reached Peter through a friend.
She would from that point on refuse to take calls from the buyer who has now been conned of Sh31,000.
In a series of exchanges with Mildred via WhatsApp, she scolds them for paying for items that they were yet to receive.

“I am not responsible for anyone on social media. When you called me, I asked you if you have gone to view… Don’t burden me, I am only responsible for myself not online strangers,” reads one of her texts.
She would later claim that her account was hacked and the post pulled down. She advised the buyer to report the matter to Kilimani Police Station.
We also understand that she blocked the user.

Kahawa Tungu also understands that a number of people have also unsuccessfully tried reaching Mildred. They too bought items from Peter.
It is also true that the same items posted on Buyer Beware were on April 30 posted on Kilimani Mums by a Jacinta Doreen Akinyi.
