‘America’s dad’, actor, Bill Cosby has been sentenced to serve 3 to 10 years maximum in state prison for sexual assault charges.
Montgomery County Judge Steven T. O’Neill denied the actor bail, ruling that he should be sent to prison immediately as he is a “possible be a danger to the community”.
The 81 year old was found guilty of 3 charges of sexual assault and listed as a sexually violent predator, consequently leading him to receive lifetime counselling and his name to be added to sex offenders list.
The actor’s legal team requested that he should be released on bail, awaiting his appeal but that request was denied.
His lawyers have vowed to appeal the sentence as they argue that Bill Cosby is too elderly to withstand life in prison.
“What does an 81-year-old man do in prison? How does he fight off the people who are trying to extort him, or walk to the mess hall?” his attorney Joseph Green posed to the court.
He was escorted from court in handcuffs, to be taken to prison.
Mr Cosby is the first celebrity to be sentenced since the onset of the #MeToo Campaign.
