When the former student leader at the constituency tallying centre, he was informed that the key to where the certificate was stored had gone missing.
“You are not doing me a favour. You cannot select leaders for people of Embakasi East. I’m elected. We are not leaving. You are not leaving until I get my certificate,” he said.
Babu claimed that the area’s returning officer was trying to deny him his victory. According to him, the R.O had ties with Deputy President, William Ruto.
Owino alleged that the R.O had said that the logistics officer, Chelimo, who had the key had been arrested.
“Make sure my certificate is brought. Otherwise we will frog march you to the IEBC officers. What I am sure of is that you are not leaving here,” Babu added.
Tension is said to have built up but the police intervened and took control of the situation.
The certificate was later found by the deputy returning officer.
The former SONU leader garnered 45,462 votes, beating Jubilee’s Francis Mureithi who has rejected the results and has asked for a repeat of the vote tallying.
