Among the list of priorities are conflict prevention and sustaining peace, mediation, migration, implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and Paris Agreement on climate change, human rights and human dignity, and the future and reforms of the United Nations.
The 15 member team plan to meet for the first time in New York on October 6.
They will discuss global political issues, impressions of the General Assembly’s recently concluded high-level week, messages from the General Debate and upcoming key international challenges.
The appointment comes after Mohamed missed out on the chair of the African Union Commission position earlier this year.

Truth be told, losing the AU Chair in Addis Ababa was painful for Ms Mohamed. It’s great to see her dusting off and coming back into the limelight. Perhaps this is the experience she needed in her already impressive CV to assist with the bigger challenges to come. It is during her tenure – even though I and many others may not have agreed with several of her missions – that Kenya started her move from obscurity to the high table of African diplomacy. I wish her the very best.
