Former President Daniel Moi’s first son, Jonatha Moi, has passed on.

The former President Moi’s press secretary Lee Njiru confirmed the news on Saturday.

Speaking to the Nation, Njiru noted that the family would release a detailed statement on Sunday.

Mr Njiru noted: “I have been asked by the Moi family to tell Kenyans to respect their privacy at this mourning period of their beloved kin.”

However, it is unclear what caused Jonathan’s death.

According to Citizen Digital, Jonathan, a former rally driver, succumbed to pancreatic cancer.

Before his retirement, Jonathan participated in several rally tournaments.

In 2002, Jonathan tried his luck in the political sphere, having vied for the Eldama Ravine seat.

He would later withdraw his candidature and chose to support Musa Sirma.

His brother and Baringo Senator, Gideon Moi in a statement said: “Jonathan will be remembered for his daring exploits in the racing tracks, in muddy and dusty tracks, during this time of Easter. He was amiable, social and down to earth and industrious human being.”

The family will keep the public posted but will release a detailed statement tomorrow.
