Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been charged by the Football Association for allegedly breaching its betting rules in January this year.
The 29-year-old is accused of breaking one rule regarding betting on football and one which covers providing information relating to football which is not publicly available.
Liverpool’s spokesperson said the player has co-operated fully “throughout this process” and “stated categorically that he has never gambled on football,” according to the BBC.
Sturridge ha until Tuesday evening to respond the charge.
“As will any issue of this nature, we will allow the process to be concluded in its entirety before making any further comment,” the spokesperson added.
Sturridge, who joined Liverpool in 2013 from Chelsea, spent the last half of last season at West Brom after moving on loan on 29 January. He has been capped 26 by England.
