Airtel Kenya Announces Cheaper Data Bundles, Free WhatsApp

After Safaricom, Airtel has now announced new and cheaper data offerings which includes free WhatsApp on the depletion of data bundles.

Commenting on the new data offerings announced this morning, Airtel Kenya managing director, Prasanta Das Sarma said, “We are happy to introduce our revamped Amazing data bundle offerings that will also allow our customers to enjoy more data and free WhatsApp that does not eat into their bundles.”

The bundles are way cheaper than what Safaricom announced some few days ago.

According to Airtel, unlike offerings from their competitors, the free WhatsApp offering by Airtel does not consume your data bundles and thus ensures that customers’ data bundles last for longer, ensuring that customers get free WhatsApp throughout the validity of the mother bundle at no extra cost.

Airtel also claims that their version of free WhatsApp data bundles doesn’t reduce the speeds when the main data bundle is depleted.

The problem might be Airtel’s limited network reach, especially 3G and 4G, in most parts of the country. The Indian company has not tried to improve on the quality of access with even most parts of Nairobi still under 3G and not 4G as with Safaricom.
