Draw for the Ghana 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) is set for Sunday night in Accra with eight teams involved including Kenya’s Harambee Starlets.
The teams will be pooled into two groups with hosts Ghana and defending and record eight-time champions Nigeria being top seeded.
Top two teams from each group sail through to the semi-finals with top three overall finishers in the biennial showpiece earning tickets to represent the continental in the World Cup next year in France.
The other teams are Algeria, South Africa, Zambia, Mali and Cameroon.
Kenya’s Harambee Starlets, who were the last to qualify this week after CAF disqualified Equatorial Guinea for fielding an ineligible player in the final round of the qualifiers will be praying for a favorable placement.
Starlets are making a return to the tournament after maiden appearance in the Cameroon edition in 2016 where they lost all their group matches to Ghana, Mali and Nigeria.
With less than a month to prepare for the tournament set to run from November 17 to December 1, the Kenyan side which yet to be named will have to dig deeper to improve on the last outing’s result.
