Simba SC media officer Haji Manara is being held by authorities for questioning concerning the kidnapping of Tanzanian business mogul and Simba SC sponsor Mohammed Dewji.
Haji was apprehended Thursday evening for grilling before being released but was re-arrested the following morning for further interrogation.
Dar Es Salaam police commander Lazaro Mambosasa confirmed the arrest.
Haji has been spreading information on social media concerning the incident while claiming to be doing so on behalf of MO’s family, which is false according to Lazaro.
“We have arrested Manara because he has been spreading information on social media while claiming he has been sent by the family which is not true.
He has not been authorized by the family to do so and hence he is under arrest,” Lazaro said.
43-year-old MO Dewji was abducted by unknown gun-men Thursday morning as he was entering Colosseum Hotel, Dar for a gym session.
So far up-to 30 suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident according to reports but he is yet to be found.
As of February this year, MO, ranked 17th in the list of richest people in Africa, had a net worth of $1.5 billion.
The former Member of Parliament became the first Tanzanian to cover the Forbes Magazine.
