AFC Leopards captain Duncan Otieno who is trying out with Nkana FC of Zambia is hoping to secure a chance to be part of the team next season.

The 24-year-old defensive midfielder, who can also play as a defender, believes it would be a “great opportunity for me to take my career to the next level.”

“Yes I am in Zambia,” the Chavakali High School alumnus confirmed, saying that “I hope to secure a chance to be part of the team next season.”

He added: “It’s a big club in Zambia with a big fan base and they are performing well. I can only hope all goes well.”

Nkana have had a decent season and have already secured continental football spot next season.

The Kitwe based giants and record Zambian Super League champions with 12 titles, are currently second in the 20-team topflight and stand a chance to play in the 2018-19 Caf Champions League season if they maintain that position.

The Kalampa is home to Kenyan international defender Musa Mohammed who joined them mid this year and is already a mainstay in the coach Zeddy Saileti’s squad.

According to Kahawa Tungu sources, Nkana are highly likely to sign Otieno after failing to capture Ugandan midfielder Khalid Aucho, who demanded a monthly salary of $7000 which way beyond their budget.

Otieno played for Leopards U-20 team in 2013 before being promoted to the senior team with the recommendation of the then manager Luc Eymael.

He was loaned out to Posta Rangers in 2016 for a season before returning to captain the team later.

Duncan is also a student at the University of Nairobi.
