Bandari FC edged out Gor Mahia 2-1 to bring their 22-match unbeaten run to a screeching halt at Mbaraki Stadium, Mombasa on Tuesday.
Under a sweltering heat, K’Ogalo, who arrived in the coastal town on Monday well in time to acclimatize, found the going tough, conceding twice in the first half.
Guya put the Dockers in the lead in the 12th minute from a free-kick before Yema Mwana doubled the lead in the 36th minute, capitalizing on a mix up in the defense.
Jacques Tuyisenge pulled one back for the visitors in the 78th minute as they threatened a comeback but Bandari’s backline marshaled by Felly Mulumba refused to bulge.
The coach Bernard Mwalala’s side also deployed anti football tactics to frustrate their opponents.
Fred Nkata received a second yellow for time wasting as they finished the match a man down.
As tension hit crescendo at Mbaraki, on social media fans were seething with rage, trying to figure out how the mighty K’Ogalo could lose they unblemished run to a team they had previously beaten with ease.
Some blamed the team’s punishing schedule that has seen them play games after every three days, while others pointed fingers at Eliud Owalo for spoiling the boys at a 4-star hotel.
Owalo, a staunch supporter of the team hosted the team since Monday at a 4-star hotel in Shanzu and the players plus the technical were pictured having a feast of their lives before the game.
“The players looked heavy and overfed,” one fan said.
Gor take to the field on Friday for their next KPL outing against Posta Rangers in Kisumu.
