Joseph Mucheru, who at one point worked for former President Mwai Kibaki as his press man has successfully challenged the Management of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in court after being arrested in the airports ‘Restricted Area’ for overstaying in the parking lot.

Mucheru was arrested after he allegedly refused to bribe officers at Terminal 1A of the airport.

“I detest corruption. I refused to bribe at the JKIA airport, and for that I was arrested and arraigned in court for allegedly ‘overstaying’ at a restricted parking lot. I challenged the legality of the charge and thanks to my able legal team of Roy Mwamba and Richard Musiime, who filed a preliminary objection, the state has today withdrawn the frivolous and illegal charge,” explained Mucheru in a Facebook post.

Mucheru explains that “the Traffic Act Cap 403 amendments 37 & 38 section 5 states inter alia – ” parking area” means an area designated as such by a highway authority where vehicles of any class or description may wait without charge.”

“My lawyers demanded for the gazette notice prescribing Terminal 1A parking as a designated area per the law. However it turned out that no such notice exists! Therefore all those ‘restricted’ parking lots at the JKIA are illegal. So fellow drivers take note,” added disgruntled Mucheru.

Mucheru is the owner and CEO of Media Vision, the company behind the Sinema Mashinani concept that trains upcoming film makers and produces movies in Kenyan dialects, in partnership with Ezekiel Mutua’s Kenya Film Classification Board.
