The woman who died in Nairobi Hospital of sepsis after a breast enlargement operation gone wrong underwent the operation at Surgeoderm Healthcare, situated along Theta Lane in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.

The clinic offers; breast enlargement and reduction, leg shaping or augmentation, hair loss treatments and plastic or reconstructive surgery.

Initial reports indicated that June Wanza had the operation at an outpatient facility at the La Galleria Mall in Nairobi’s Westlands.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPD) through its chief executive, Daniel Yumbya has written to the aforementioned clinic asking for a detailed report into events leading to her death.

Mr Yumbya also noted that the board is awaiting a report from the Nairobi Hospital where the deceased passed on.

“After we receive the report from Nairobi we will consider the next course of action,” he said.

Ms Wanza died on Thursday after seeking medical attention on Wednesday at the Nairobi Hospital.

Her family says she had severe abdominal pains when she was admitted. Doctors found that her intestines had been cut or punctured in the first surgery, and her blood pressure dangerously low.

“Because her intestines were cut, all the waste was seeping out and spreading inside the stomach. That caused an infection called sepsis. Doctors battled to save her life on Friday but she died from the infection,” a family member said.

Ms Wanza will be laid to rest on Saturday, June 16.
