Athlete Asbel Kiprop had earlier vehemently denied the doping allegations . He denied that his urine sample tested positive for a banned substance recombinant erythropoietin (EPO).
The athlete integrity unit however disagree with Asbel saying that they followed the correct procedures with regards. they sad that they confirmed that the substance was present.
“The AIU confirms that recombinant erythropoietin (“EPO”) was detected in a urine sample collected from Mr Kiprop on 27 November 2017. On 3 February 2018, Mr Kiprop was notified of the Adverse Analytical Finding and on 20 February 2018, Mr Kiprop was informed that the ‘B’ sample analysis had confirmed the Adverse Analytical Finding. On 16 March 2018, Mr Kiprop was charged with violations of the IAAF Anti-Doping Rules and the matter is currently proceeding before the independent IAAF Disciplinary Tribunal.” the AIU statement read in part.
They say that Asbel Kiprop has made several allegations against them which they refuted as untrue. He said that they had failed to handle the matter confidentially as per the regulations during such proceedings.
The AIU has however said that all this information was sent to the athlete before being released anywhere . They also denied the allegations of asking the athlete for money before releasing the results of the test.
