According to a report published by the Communications Authority of Kenya, the number of subscriptions of Airtel increased significantly from 6.1 million subscribers to 7.3milion subscribers during the NASA boycott.
This was after the NASA Coalition listed Safaricom as one of the many companies to be boycotted for participating in election fraud during the 2017 general elections.
Their principals, led by Raila Odinga ceremoniously went ahead to change their lines to Airtel.
In the report, Safaricom’s mobile voice market and subscriptions dropped by 4.4 and 2.8 percentage points respectively in the period from October to December 2017.
Biggest gainers were Airtel and Telkom whose figures show an increase in their subscriptions, market shares and voice traffic.
Airtel’s market share by voice traffic grew by 4.6 percentage points, that is 22.2 percent up from 17.4 percent, while its market share by subscription rose to 17.2 per cent from 14.9 percent recorded during the previous quarter.
Telkom Kenya’s market share by subscription increased by 0.6 percent, that is from 8.4 percent to 9.0 percent.
