Economist and NASA strategist, David Ndii’s wife, Mwende Gatabaki says her husband was arrested on Sunday outside Leopard Beach hotel, Diani by seven police officers supposedly from the flying squad.

The police have denied arresting him but NASA says that he (Ndii) was apprehended over his role in the formation of the People’s Assembly. He was part of the steering committee formed on Friday by their leader, Raila Odinga.

According to Ms Mwende, an ICT expert the couple was there for a wedding. The officers, she says parked outside the hotel before taking Ndii away.

The wife says that she followed the officers to Diani police station but the officers there were clueless about the economist’s arrest. The OCS, she says later asked to search their hotel room.

The officers, Mrs Ndii, says did not have with them a search warrant. They asked for their computers, which she says they left in Nairobi.

The police drew up three search warrants, referring to him as a ‘suspect’ but no cause for arrest.

Mwende has accused the police of at some point trying to detain her but Winnie Odinga showed up and she was allowed to leave.

She has reiterated that she does not know where he husband has been taken. But NASA lawyers were on Monday morning barred from accessing the DCI headquarters in Kiambu where the economist is allegedly being held.

A white car, she says has frequently been seen at their home in Nairobi with two men on board.

”Ndii has been receiving threats to his life,” she said.

Ms Mwende came back to Kenya upon request by President Uhuru Kenyatta to create ‘single source of truth,’ a database that helps secure the country from the Al Shabaab.

She says that Kenya is no longer a safe to be, sentiments shared by activist Khelef Khalifa.

The opposition has called for the ‘unconditional release of Ndii.’ They say that his arrest is aimed at intimidating NASA.
