The driver, Samuel Kinyanjui was arrested on Wednesday and held at Makuyu police station. He was to set be arraigned in court today (16th November)but is said to have never left the police car that took him there.
Mr Kinyanjui was facing charges of killing the late Gakuru through dangerous driving but the DPP declined to confirm the charges due to the ‘nature and gravity’ of the matter.
The public prosecutor has directed that no charges be ‘preferred until and unless the duplicate file has been forwarded to him for perusal and appropriate directions.’
Mutahi Kahiga, now Nyeri governor divulged that the late Gakuru had admitted to the car being faulty.
Gakuru died on Tuesday along the Murang’a-Thika road after hitting a ‘killer guardrail’ and will be buried on Saturday, 18 November 2017.
