jkuat,KUJomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has suspended studies indefinitely.

The institution of higher learning has been shut down indefinitely and students residing in the Juja main campus were advised to vacate premises.

The move was caused by unresolved conflict pitting management against students.

The aggrieved learners are said to have gone on strike they claim was instigated by “ignorance by the management” according to a letter by Student leaders to fellow comrades.

One of the issues raised was the poor living conditions within the campus and poor WiFi connectivity.

Also cutting short the academic programmes is Kenyatta University (KU) over the ongoing lecturers strike.

The institution has rescheduled exams meant to start on November, 20 until further notice as consultations between the dons and the Ministry of Education continue.

New semester dates will, according to the memo, be announced soon.

The dons have vowed to strike forever should the government fail to honour their 2013-2017 CBA that saw a Sh10 billion salary increment.

CS Education, Dr Fred Matiang’i on Wednesday did however mention that the ministry will starting January 2018 not employ lecturers on permanent and pensionable terms. The deal will not affect those already in employment, he added.

”We have stopped the hiring, especially of support staff, on PP. We will recruit on contractual basis,” he said.

“The proposal to introduce contract-based employment in varsities will start in the next financial year…Time has come when we must reflect on how to run universities.”
