Andrew Dixon the former chief marketing officer of Nakumatt has been appointed as the Chief operating officer for Uchumi Supermarket. The retailer has been on its death bed for years with attempts to resuscitate it being futile.
Uchumi Supermarket’s chief executive officer Julius Kipngetich confirmed the appointment saying that Dixon has extensive experience in the retailer sector.
Andrew Dixon left Nakumatt almost a month ago under unclear circumstances he had joined the retailer a year ago from Texco and was supposed to assist in effecting a turnaround.
Andrew Dixon is expected to to make a turnaround in Uchumi which faces similar issues as Nakumatt of empty shelves and billion shilling debts. The difference is that Uchumi expects the state to bail some of its debts out.
